Shimo-La-Tewa school
Shimo-La-Tewa school began in 1932 as a continuation of the Arab primary school which was situated at the site of the present Serani primary school. It was only for standard 5 and 6 although later in1934 it started offering junior Cambridge examination and those who qualified went to Makerere College. Although it was a continuation of the Arab school, it also offered places to other non-European and non-Asianschool pathway
students. Academy and Allidina Visram schools were for Europeans and Asians respectively.
The student enrolment at this time was between 100-110 with 80 being Moslems and 20-30 being Christians.These two groups mixed only in the classrooms, games but they separated during meals, although they ate meals in the same dining hall, and they also slept in separate dormitories. The teaching staff were only six and these were Mr. Hodkins-principal, Mr.Wakeboil, Mr Ahmed fakii, Mr. H.Ishmael, Mr. Kibwana Mwingale and Mr. Ondondi-a carpenter instructor.....Read More
